MeetingPack, the biennial meeting organised by AINIA and AIMPLAS that brings together the entire packaging value chain, announces as a novelty in its next edition, the MP2022 Awards. These awards aim to recognise those innovations focused on the development of barrier packaging solutions and sustainability, developed by professionals and organisations for their application in the food industry.
The award is aimed at national and international companies that manufacture materials and films, sheets, preforms, containers, packaging equipment, recycling systems and packaging systems that, through their innovations, are contributing to the development of the sector with sustainable solutions.
This first edition consists of two categories: Solutions oriented to flexible packaging (films) and Solutions oriented to rigid packaging (trays and/or bottles). These innovations can be applicable to any area of the sector: materials, packaging, equipment and processes, among others.
Submission of applications until 14 February
Submission of applications will be open until 14 February 2022. Applications must be submitted using the form available on the MeetingPack MP2022 Awards website.
The evaluation of candidatures will be carried out by a jury made up of a panel of seven experts, belonging to different organisations: scientific committee and event organiser, as well as relevant experts from the business, institutional and scientific fields. The evaluation of applications will take into account the applicability and impact of the innovation, as well as sustainability criteria. Three finalists in each category will be chosen from among the applications submitted.
The awards will be presented at the MP2022 Awards gala dinner to be held on 20 April at the Valencia Conference Centre. The companies presenting their candidacy must have at least one representative participating as an attendee at MeetingPack 2022.
Barrier packaging: a challenge for the circular economy
The conditions under which food reaches the consumer, as well as its shelf life, depend to a large extent on the atmosphere inside the packaging. For this reason, the latest trends in research are aimed at advancing in barrier packaging, as it protects the product from external factors such as light, humidity or oxygen, managing to delay its deterioration, apart from the use of additives.
In a global context that is clearly committed to environmental sustainability, the challenge for the industry is to put packaging on the market that extends the shelf life of food and guarantees its safety, while at the same time having the least possible impact on the environment.
The objectives that this scenario poses to the sector have made it the central focus of the fifth edition of MeetingPack 2022, which will take place on 20 and 21 April at the Palacio de Congresos de Valencia. Under the title Barrier Packaging Solutions: A challenge for the circular economy, it will address the challenges and opportunities that the circular economy poses to the food barrier packaging sector.
MeetingPack 2022 has the support of sponsoring companies such as RAORSA, LEYGATECH, ENPLATER GROUP, UBE, RSM and TPL. It also has the collaboration of entities such as AVEP (Valencian Association of Plastics Entrepreneurs), PlasticsEurope, FIPA, EFE (Association of Flexible Packaging Converters), Packnet (Spanish Technological Platform for Packaging), ASOBIOCOM (Spanish Association of Compostable Biodegradable Plastics), Snacks Association, Grupo Bimbo, Clúster Alimentario de Galicia, Flexible Packaging Europe, FEDACOVA (Federación Empresarial de Agroalimentación de la CV), Plataforma Tecnológica Food For Life Spain, Grupo Nueva Pescanova, Palacios, SWP and VISCOFAN.
